Forming late 2008 around charismatic guitarist/vocalist Marty Frawley (son of much-missed Paul Kelly & the Dots member Maurice Frawley) and bassist Rick Milovanovic, Twerps have quickly risen to become one of Melbourne’s favourite pop bands.
They play their own brand of warm and incredibly infectious pop, with elements of the 80s Flying Nun sound and 90s lo-fi. Marty’s cheeky but heartfelt songs are complemented by the crystalline guitar lines of guitarist Julia MacFarlane (ex Batrider).
After a trip to the US in early 2011, Twerps debut self-titled album emerged later that year as a co-release between Chapter Music and New York label Underwater Peoples. Twerps toured the States supporting Real Estate in April 2012, then returned six months later for their own headline tour. Latest single Work It Out also saw a release on UK label Passport, while at home its B-side He’s In Stock became a Triple J staple.
